As autumn settles over the mountains, and the trees around Camp Kanuga begin their annual transformation, I find myself pausing daily to take in the awe. The greens of summer are giving way to golds, ambers, and deep reds. Each leaf carries its own hue, its own story, and yet together they form a magnificent backdrop of connection and wonder.
I’m reminded that camp is much the same. Every summer, hundreds of campers and staff come through our gates, each at a different stage of life, each with their own background, hopes, and way of seeing the world. It’s this blend of ages and experiences, this vivid diversity of stories, and vast spectrum of identities that makes the canvas of Camp Kanuga so beautiful!
Just as no two leaves change in quite the same way, no two summers ever look alike. Each season brings new colors, new energy, and new growth–both in the landscape and in the lives we touch here. Together, we create something living and ever-changing: a community that reflects the beauty of transformation.
As we move into the quiet rhythm of fall and look ahead to the year to come–new programs, returning campers, and the continued stewardship of this sacred place, I’m filled with gratitude. Gratitude for those who make Camp Kanuga what it is, and for the reminder that change, in all its forms, can be something beautiful.
With warmth,
Ingrid VanZanten
Camp Kanuga Director
